pharmachologic effect
Glycerol is synthesized in the body of fats. And endogenous, and exogenous glycerol is subjected to oxidation to final products — carbon dioxide and water. Glycerin is a soft reflector-action laxative tool for local applications. Enhances peristaltics due to irritation of the mucosa of the rectum. Softens calibrated masses. Used in the form of suppositories (candles) and microclism with mortar.
The solution is applied to the skin as a softening, protective agent, prevents the loss of moisture. Well adsorbed by mucous membranes, almost not absorbed through the skin. Reduces the annoying effect of other drugs.
Method of application and dose
Suppositories: rectally 1 time per day, preferably after breakfast.
Solution: externally on the affected areas of skin and mucous membranes in the form of applications.
Indications and contraindications
It is used in constipation of various etiology (age-related, with limited mobility).
Externally — With dry skin and mucous.
Glycerin is contraindicated with:
- hemorrhoid in the aggravation phase;
- rectum tumors;
- proctitis;
- Cracks of the rear pass;
- an increased reduction in myometrium;
- Individual intolerance to glycerol. Contraindicated applied to damaged skin.
It is permissible to use glycerol during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).
Side effect
With prolonged use, allergic reactions may appear, irritation. During rectal use, physiological act of defecation can weaken. Therefore, it is recommended to stop the treatment of glycerol when restoring the normal intestinal function. Does not interact with other drugs.
